After 3 years our mission as independent music guide for upcoming bands is accomplished, with a lot of love, sacrifice and hard work. If we look back we can say that a great part of the bands we loved from the very first beginning made it to a next level. We discovered. We kick-started careers. We gained ground in a rusty industry. We made friends. And we had tons of fun.

2016 is the year we’re going to make bigger steps. Houbie started his own promotion label under the name NO MILK TODAY and continues his journey with upcoming bands on a higher level. Andreas keeps making videos as independent filmmaker, but in a broader world. And of course it’s not unthinkable that we will collaborate for new projects in the future..

Since we met Yellow Grass a year ago the band is working their way up to fortune and fame. Their Americana debut album ‘More Than You Should Know‘ is very well recieved and their latest single, the title track of the album, has reached over 650.000 hits on Spotify. We caught up with them at Popronde 2014 and earlier the year we released another live video of their album launch: ‘Holes in My Pocket’, you can watch it here.

In the 8 years since the magical birth of DeWolff they have released 5 studio albums, got their own documentary and claimed an own signature Harley-Davidson as merchandise. But they have never released a proper full-length live album. Everyone who has ever seen a DeWolff live concert knows this is something else. And there’s more: the first 666 LP’s are pressed on super-limited blue and red swirl vinyl. This is to celebrate the first release on their very own record label Electrosaurus Records: a new shelter for all their upcoming grooviness, but also all kinds of other musical gems that DeWolff really digs!

Those of you ‘in the know’ might have seen Aïscha’s name pop up in all kinds of creative disciplines, and with the connections and experience she has, its no surprise that she’s hit the ground running as a musician. This single marks yet another change in sound, having progressed from Jazz to Rock to Hip Hop styled productions, yet always maintaining her own approach.

Man On Fire is a result of Aïscha teaming up with producers Mark van Bruggen and Cimo Fränkel, who both work with big names likes Dotan and Yellow Claw, to produce some powerful and uplifting music to accompany this story of a relationship driven to the edge because of a communication breakdown. For the video, Aïscha’s label, Embrace Records, reached out to us at Stillman who collaborated with the great visual artist Noah Latif Lamp (‘the man on fire’), model Shari Ashley Labadie and our very own director Max Westendorp for a truly stunning display of talent. If this is the standard being set, then the EP – set to be released late 2015 – should definitely be one to pay attention to.

The making of Man On Fire:

When you think of stoicism, entertainment generally doesn’t follow right? We’ll it sure as hell does if FAUT HAUT have anything to do with it. Today we bring to you the music video for ‘Stoic Man’, from FAUT HAUT’s debut album, ‘FAUT HAUT is FAUT HAUT‘. For this one, frontman Joep Bollinger teamed up with Stillman director Max Westendorp to bring his vision to fruition, and the guys fucking nailed it…

The imagery captured in this video is a perfect representation of the bands collection of washboards, driving bass lines, and an organ sound that you could find in a circus tent… It’s an unusual mix, sure, but it’s that clash of the old, the weird, and the funky that truly shows off the band’s unique sound.

The brainchild of Joep Bollinger, Faut Haut released their debut album back in September last year, and have refused to be defined by one genre ever since. Largely pieced together from a series of jams with star players Marnix Dorrestein (IX), Pyke Pasman (Jungle by Night) and Roosbeef drummer Tim van Oosten. The album swings from macabre to experimental and back again, all the time flowing with abstract yet vivid lyrics. So go ahead, place FAUT HAUT in a box and watch them work their way out of it. I still remember the day that Pablo van de Poel told me about a “magical first jam” with Robin Piso and his brother Luka. Back in the days while we served our sentences at a boring secondary school in the deep south of the country (oh yes, very south..). In the year 2007 they officially formed DeWolff and by now DeWolff has matured in to one of the Netherlands’ biggest live bands ever. They keep the spirit of the 60’s alive with high production records and a sense of play-like-it’s-the-last-show-you’ll-ever-play that can only rarely be witnessed onstage nowadays. Luckily they’re also keepin’ up the good old shenanigans: they are still there! (and here and there!)

Nostalgic 80′s new wave, sixties, flying carpets, California sunset, noise, Mac DeMarco, lo fi music videos, a label in Mexico… Yuko Yuko is really one of the biggest surprises of the Dutch underground this year. The man behind the new Dutch cult movement from Friesland is the nineteen-year-old Elias Elgersma. He already has a big catalog of records and music videos which, by no accident, are all recorded on old fashioned tape recorders. When we heard his EP ‘Cultlove’ we knew that Yuko Yuko would not be a one day fly (same story for Noisey). These guys always have a few unreleased records ready to share, so be aware!

When the Dutch media discovered them (after the Mexicans and the French did!), mister Yuko decided to form a 5 piece live-band. They really are one of a kind, and they are stylish as fuck. We met them at Ahoy in Rotterdam and recorded a sweet, relaxed live session in their dressing room. The song is a solo version of their latest single ‘When I cry, I’ll smile’. My tip for a good start of 2015?: drink until you forget you ever worked last year and dance your heart out to the dreamy sounds of Yuko Yuko.

Since its release, the bands debut album ‘More Than You Should Know‘ has proven to be a more than worthy mark on the underground music scene here in the Netherlands. As you can see, the band can seriously put on a good show too! Throughout the set they pulled the crowd back and forth through their styles of fun-loving rock and intimate americana. Their music truly encapsulates and controls your emotions, but don’t take our word for it, check it out yourselves!

Since the release of the album, The Vagary have wasted no time in pushing it to every corner of the pop music scene. This year we became partners with 

, the biggest travelling festival of Holland: 130 bands performing in 31 cities. One of the greatest milestones to take for upcoming bands on their road to fortune and fame. We joined the tour and picked 4 artists in 4 different cities for an intimate interview and a live session. Episode #3: MAASK in Rotterdam

If you’ve never seen Joost Maaskant aka MAASK perform live, you better fix that. Quick. This guy truly embraces improvisation, feeding off the crowds response in real time to deliver a performance that’s not quite like anything I’ve seen before. And the sounds! Any noise this man makes becomes music. Really. Anything…

We met up with MAASK at Rotown in Rotterdam’s centre and were treated to a crazy good performance in a dressing room that was almost as improvised as his music. Only he could hear the music, so we sat in quiet awe while he yelled into the mic and forgot that we were there. With some quick questions and some even quicker answers, MAASK showed us that being a musician doesn’t mean you have to take yourself too seriously. It’s all just about having fun, and if you can make some people dance along the way, then all the better!
