A dirty blues lesson by Texas Radio
“Folks! I know what you’ve been waiting for… we’re now gonna play our first 3FM radio hit! Oh gosh we don’t have one.. sorry”
The boys from Texas Radio don’t take themselves too seriously on stage, but hell yeah they know how to play the blues! We had the pleasure of joining them on a couple gigs of their Dutch tour. The result: a lot of banter, drunken shenanigans and some kick ass video recordings!
The first time we met them was at the backstage in pop-temple Volt. Where they played at the At The Juke Joint stage, across from our own NO MILK TODAY stage. It was an awesome night, especially when fifties singer-songwriter Jaimy W, who finished the line up at our stage, was joined by the drunken cowboys of Texas Radio. This spontanious act resulted in an astonishingly groovy after hours jam session. One of the most memorable No Milk Today moments in its history. These charming guys, led by frontman Arthur Akkermans, deserved a good live video! Luckily, we got to catch up with them on the Ribs & Blues festival in Raalte, where they played a home match in front of two thousand blues fans.
They are rock ‘n’ roll, they are entertaining and it’s truly the most funny band we came across on our journey through the underground music scene. The pure blues they play reminds me of Cuby & The Blizzards, but their music is not the only similarity. We are not talking about fancy big city blues here, but about straight no-nonsense blues out of the Dutch low-lying plains. Even though the traditional music establishment have not yet acknowledged them, it’s obvious that they no longer get their milk bottle-fed. So keep your eyes open for the announcement of the first names of our next NO MILK TODAY..!
